What We Were Missing, Take Two The original version of “What We Were Missing” was typical of my initial demos – guitar and bass over a drum loop. Today I’ve uploaded the final album version, giving it my current treatment. I used the Fernandes Sustainer for the rhythm guitar and bass, the Korg synth for background, an electric piano riff during the chorus, and the Gibson Les Paul with a full board of effects for the lead.
As I mentioned with the original upload, the inspiration for this song came while watching a movie. There was a scene with a guy on a sidewalk who spotted a girl, and for him, time slowed down, she became backlit, the music cued, and he fell for her. I combined that with the lift I was getting from being out in the Spring weather at the time, plus my own feelings of falling in love with someone who completes you and makes you recognize what’s been missing in your life. The goal was to create a feel-good, love song, and the result is my favorite track to date.
